Project overview

A radio station that sounds as good as it looks

Radio City's Jaipur station needed on-air studios, a production room, cabins, a conference room and open seating for its team, all within 3,000 sq ft. A radio station is hard to fit into a small space. The studios have to be acoustically isolated from the office around them, and the office still has to feel open and energetic.

We started with the studios and planned everything else around them. Each studio has its own acoustic envelope, with treated walls, sealed doors and a glazed window to the control area, so the presenters stay connected to the floor without letting noise in. The rest of the office carries Radio City's brand in colour-blocked ceilings, music-themed wall graphics and a timber-slatted reception, and every square foot does a job.

Design approach

Loud colour, quiet studios

The office is designed to feel like the station sounds: bold, warm and full of energy. Colour-blocked baffle ceilings, music-themed wall graphics and Radio City's orange and blue run from reception through the conference room and work floor.

The studios take the opposite approach. Dark acoustic finishes, sealed doors and treated surfaces keep sound in and noise out, so a live broadcast can run while the office works normally next door. Fitting both into 3,000 sq ft meant planning every wall twice: once for looks and once for sound.
